When walking around the city, have you ever noticed that some cafés and places draw you in while others somehow make you hesitate?
That’s because, whether we realize it or not, we are sensing energy. When you feel, “I don’t really want to go there today,” it usually means that the energy of that place doesn’t align with your own.
I always choose shops based on their energy. For example, when the staff look exhausted or the atmosphere feels heavy, I naturally find myself staying away. And I can’t help but think, “The owner probably doesn’t value their employees very much.”
In America, where tipping culture is the norm, everyone smiles as long as you pay. But energy is different—it can’t be faked. Energy is vibration, or simply the mood that people carry.
A slightly grimy space or staff who seem to have lost their spark—those things reveal the true energy of a place.
Energy attracts what is similar to itself. That means if you spend time in gloomy environments or around people with low vibration, that same heaviness will eventually start affecting you.
And yet, there’s one place I find myself going back to again and again—Starbucks. It’s always bright, always welcoming. You can feel the good energy flowing through the space.
Today, I took some time to study the management philosophy of Howard Schultz, the founder of Starbucks.
He once said:
“We are not in the coffee business serving people. We are in the people business serving coffee.”
The first time I heard those words, I nodded deeply. Yes, my instinct and energy reading were right! And, no matter how delicious the coffee, if there is no good energy in the places, they couldn't make me go back there for sure.
Schultz calls Starbucks “a company for people.” He refers to his employees as partners, because the idea is simple—good energy can only come from people.
Creating a workplace where people feel valued and happy—that’s what shapes the energy customers feel. That’s why Starbucks always feels bright, comfortable, and somehow healing.
☀️ A Hint for Living Happily
It’s amazing to think that Mr. Howard Schultz, who built such a positive company culture, actually came from a very humble and difficult background.
So how did he develop such an optimistic outlook—and turn Starbucks into a global success story?
Everyone has days when they feel good and positive. But that alone doesn’t make someone a great leader or CEO.
Success doesn’t come from occasional inspiration. It comes from the ability to stay consistently positive every single day.
That is also the biggest hint for living a happy life.
When you raise your own energy little by little, day after day, your entire life begins to shift toward light.
Next time, I’ll share how Mr. Howard Schultz maintains his mindset through his morning routines.
Stay tuned! ☕️✨
